Change Clothes

Finally, a publication releases an iPhone app and Android app at the same time. We Androids are important too you know. I’m still torn though on whether it makes more sense to have one of these apps, or to simply have your site mobile browser ready so that any phone with a browser (even the ones that aren’t smart) can get your content.

Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to playing with this one. Hope it’s as awesome as NYMag’s is. Download here

West Elm Mobile

Instead of going with an app (which I applaud), West Elm went the m-commerce route and made a site that’s easily read on both iPhone and Android. I’ll have to have someone test on BlackBerry to see if it translates on that browser as well also. It makes sense to go this route though, when all you want is for people to be able to see your product and then buy it.

And considering West Elm has great product, well… The mobile site speaks for itself. Not sure how many people think about shopping for furniture on the go, but I know I will be.

Collab Time Piece: John Fluevog + Nooka

To continue the celebration of their 40th Anniversary, John teamed up with New York’s hottest fashion accessories brand to introduce a Numbered, Limited Edition Fluevog/Nooka Timepiece.

A watermarked Fluevog Angel is printed on the popular Nooka zot face, while the white Italian leather band features a ‘Fluevog Red’ accent stitch. The casing on the back reveals a message from John and each piece’s unique number, and is attached with one ‘Fluevog Blue’ screw for each decade the company has been in business. Lastly, twice a day at 5:15, the watch will automatically release a vibration alert to remind you to take Soul Time. The last sentence is untrue. The Limited Edition piece is sold only at the Nooka Online store, and at Fluevog stores across Canada and the United States.

Sustainable Fashion: One Black Dress for 365 Days

Starting May 2009, Sheena Matheiken pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. There were 7 identical dresses for each day in the week. And each day the dress was reinvented with accessories.

Why did she do this? She created The Uniform Project to launch a one-year fundraising effort to raise money for schoolchildren living in the slums of India. As of today, she’s raised $95,089, which is estimated to help 264 kids. It also makes a hell of a statement for sustainable fashion.

Design: Spike Lee’s Absolut Brooklyn Bottle

Director Spike Lee is the bottle designer for Absolut vodka’s latest limited edition flavor, Absolut Brooklyn. The bottle features a brownstone with the address from Lee’s childhood home in Cobble Hill and bears his name on the bottle. Inside the bottle is a vodka flavored with apple and ginger, to represent the Big Apple. It has a retail price of $29.99 .
